2010-10-09 – Central Dog Park on a Sunny Afternoon

Saturday of this weekend turned out to be as nice as Friday was yesterday.  The big difference is we were able to take our time and enjoy several hours in the dog park on a sunny afternoon.  Scraps and Rags first hung out with a handful of small dogs in the small dog park before heading over to where the big guys were.  There we did a couple of laps and watched many dogs come and go.  There were large numbers at the park around 3:00 with many dogs playing and running.  It looked like a good time to me for most dogs there.

We met a few new dogs including the Dachshund named Jackson and a Jack Russell named Harley.  With so many Harleys in the dog-eat-dog world, we will call this one HarleyJack.

2010-10-08 Central Dog Park into Sunset

TDIF – Thank Dog It’s Friday – That’s right, it was Friday afternoon at the dog park and Scraps and Rags arrived around 4:30 and stayed until dark, around 6:45.  ‘Twas a beautiful day and evening and all the dogs seemed to bring their parents out for some fun the the dog park.

For Scraps and Rags it was a large dog park sandwich on small dog park bread. The large dog park had a lot of activity going on as there were play groups all over the place.  Scraps eventually found his buddy Patches and they started their own little x-rated play group.  There were so many dogs out in the dog park  that it is hard to recall 1/10th of them.  Tonight we will welcome Onxy to the group as I hope I got a good shot or two of him tonight.  It is tough on those black dogs like Onyx to capture anything but a silhouette without direct sunlight, but we still try.  In the small dog park we found very happy looking Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix that some people were dog sitting named Sonny who looked a lot like Scraps and had his coloring.

2010-10-02 – Central Dog Park After Agility Trial

Though cool, this first Saturday in October proved to be a beautiful day.  Scraps had been competing in a CPE agility trial at Lewis Morris Park all day but we got done with that at 5:00 so we had time to drive home, feed both Scraps and Rags and head to the Central Dog Park to get some play time in before dark.

Mozly ran after a deer when she was not on leash in the parking lot. We almost lost her. Be careful out there and leash your dog!

There were lots of dogs in the large dog park including 4 Bassett Hounds and a Beagle named Mozly who was off leash in the parking lot when leaving and when a deer caught his eye, Mozly was off.  He ran down Collins toward the woods and Central Avenue.  For about an hour a posse tried to track him down and it wasn’t looking good for a while as night time was approaching.  We heard someone in a neighborhood called the number on his collar and we assume Mozly was found.  The lesson should ring home for all of us not to take the dog’s safety for granted.  The rule is dogs must be on a leash outside the fenced dog park and it is a good rule that we all need to follow for our dogs’ sake!

2010-09-08 Central Dog Park

It was a nice Wednesday evening, warm but with a stiff breeze.  Scraps and Rags rodes with us on the bikes over to the Central Park Dog Park.  Spent most of the time in the large dog park and ended the night in the small dog park.  I would welcome Max, the collie pup to the dog park and the blog except for the fact his father won’t let him play with the other dogs in the park.  Nevetheless, hopefully we will see Max one day inside the fences and off leash.

As usual there were lots of dogs at the dog park and I think Scraps did really well with the variety of large dogs that came in his face tonight.  In addition, Rags was also acting pretty good.  A cute little dog we saw in the little dog park was Rufus, so I will welcome him to this blog.  I also recall a cool looking bull Terrier named Samson, so I welcome him also.  Unfortunately, the sun wasn’t on my side and my pictures aren’t great.
