2011-03-05 Denville Dog Park on Saturday Afternoon

With weather approaching the 60’s on this afternoon, Scraps and Rags were looking forward to going to the Morris County dog park to soak up the warmth. I would say the sun, but clouds were more prevalent than the sun.

As we approached the dog park, we noticed no cars. We thought this was odd as the nice weather should dictate a big crowd. As we pulled up we saw the park was closed for maintenance which was both disappointing and relieving. The disappointment is short-term in that we couldn’t go to the dog park today but happy that the Morris County Park Commission is on the ball maintaining the dog park after a difficult winter. In addition, the dog park needs some type of survival plan to withstand the long-term beating it will get starting this spring.

Good thing we maintained our membership at the Denville Dog Park so we just headed on over there. We could have gone to Lewis Morris, but Denville made the most sense. It was smart thinking, or just luck,  that we brought our Denville Dog Park badge and training treats so we could do some agility practice with Scraps and Rags.

When we got there were several dogs playing in the large park. We initially went to the small to toss some small balls around, and in a heartbeat, most of the dogs were gone.  Just Molly and a Shepard remained.  We did some dog agility training, threw some balls, hung out and headed home. We passed by the Morris County Dog Park on the way home where Bailey in the Bonneville was yearning for some activity all alone in the parking lot.  We stopped off for a walk around Greystone where we hooked up with Ringo who was out doing the same exact thing.  Sounds like a Woody Guthrie song.

  1. Was very disappointed to see the Central Dog Park “Closed for Maintenance” this past Saturday with no estimated date as to when it would re-open. There should have been some kind of notice put up beforehand and some kind of estimate noted on the sign when it would re-open. Guess we will have to find another dog park

  2. On that note, does anyone have any idea as to when the dog park will re-open? I’ve been all over the Morris Recreational & Parks sites and I haven’t found a thing.

I know I (and Baldur) really miss the park!!
